Possessing a congregation that dates back to 1886, the Antioch Baptist Church located just of Taliaferro County, Georgia was founded by ex-slaves looking to expand their freedom and shaping their lives as they saw fit. Having purchased four acres from a nearby landowner for a church and cemetery, the church was built in 1899 by local craftsmen, featuring two striking Gothic Revival-style towers flanking the main structure. Although regular services are no longer held there, descendants of the original congregation reunite every August and return to the church to worship.
Because the church no longer holds regular services, signs of neglect are evident throughout with water damage both inside and out, and the restrooms have been closed off.
